TODAY/THIS WEEK

VVA/FORT STEWART POW/MIA CEREMONY, Today:
Community Members are invited to the 2014 POW/MIA Observance ceremony, 6 p.m. today at Marne Garden, hosted by the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 789 and supported by the 3rd Infantry Division, and Fort Stewart.  The 3rd ID band’s jazz combo will be on hand at 5:30 p.m. and refreshments will follow the event.  Guest Speaker is 3rd Infantry Division Commander Maj. Gen. Mike Murray.  

Uniform for E5 and above is ASU and Service cap.  E4 and below will wear beret with ASUs.  The ceremony honors those held as prisoners of war and missing in action during the Vietnam war and upholds the Army's ethos that we will never leave a comrade behind.

LAST DAY FOR GoArmyEd FY14 TUITION, Today:
This announcement is to provide guidance to Soldiers regarding end-of-year requests for Tuition assistance (TA) through GoArmyEd.  Today is the last day for Soldiers to request TA for classes that begin on/before Sep. 13 due to the Army’s fiscal year close out.  There will be no exceptions.  This does not impact requests for courses starting Oct. 1 or later (FY 15 enrollments).

CFC CAMPAIGN, Ongoing:
The CFC was established in 1961 by an Executive Order to provide a single unified annual charitable campaign that was effective and could be accomplished through payroll deductions.  Except for service relief drives (AER) and emergency disaster appeals, the CFC is the only authorized on-the-job

SEPTEMBER/OTHER HEADLINES


CONSTRUCTION NOTICE, Monday-Oct. 3:

Fort Stewart's Forestry Branch will be conducting a timber harvest on the site of a New Diamond Elementary School.  To prepare for the harvest a temporary access trail will be constructed beginning Monday at approximately 9 a.m., in the vicinity of the wooded area north of Hero Road and west of the Isenhower Village housing area. Construction is scheduled for completion Oct. 3.  Motorists and pedestrians are advised to use extra caution when traveling on Hero Road where the speed limit will be reduced from 40 mph to 30 mph.  The sidewalk and walking trails near this area will also be affected.  Caution signs will be posted. JEWISH HIGH HOLY DAYS OBSERVED, Sept-Oct: 
Regarding Army Regulations, Commanders and supervisors should be aware, during the Jewish High Holy Day Observances, members of the Jewish faith may be required to abstain from work, travel and other activities related to routine duty. Each of the following observances begin prior to nightfall on the first day and end before sunset  on the final day.  Rosh Hashanah is Sept. 25-26; Yom Kippur is Oct. 3-4; Succot is Oct. 8-9; and Sh’mini Atzert-Yizkor is Oct. 15-17.   For more information, refer to Army Regulation 600-20.


GARRISON COMMANDER SUPERVISOR TRAINING-FS, Thursday:

PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE BACK DAY, Sep. 26:

The FS and HAAF Army Substance Abuse Program in coordination with the Chatham County Office of the Drug Enforcement Agency will host a “National Prescription Drug Take Back Day” Sep. 26 between the hours of 1-5 p.m. at the FS and HAAF Commissaries. All Soldiers, Family Members, Retirees, Civilian Employees and community members are encouraged to turn in all unused, expired or unwanted prescribed and over the counter medication for proper disposal. MILITARY WORKPLACE STUDY, Sept. 30:
The DoD is conducting a study to assess workplace relations and recent experiences of service members. This web-based survey assesses your recent experiences with military workplace relations, professionalism, and personal safety. This voluntary survey is short, and it is important, so we urge you to make time to complete it. Everyone's responses are needed so that we can better understand the presence or absence of problems in the military workplace. Select active duty service members have been invited to participate in the study via email and regular mail. The survey can be completed on or off duty, at home or at work, using a government computer, smart phone, or home computer. It’s OK to forward the survey to a personal email address. Participation is voluntary and confidential. The deadline for the survey is Sept. 30.

GARRISON COMMANDER SUPERVISORY TRAINING-HAAF, Oct. 2:
The Garrison Commander will conduct mandatory training for all Garrison Civilian Supervisors and those in uniform that supervise Garrison Civilians, AF and NAF Oct. 2 from 1-2 p.m. at the HAAF ACS Bldg 1286.  A make-up session will be held on Oct. 8 from 9-10 a.m. at the HAAF ACS Bldg 1286. FLU VACCINATIONS, Oct. 15 & 16
It's Flu season again! The Public Health Community continues its commitment to protect our Nation against flu by offering flu vaccinations at the Winn Army Community Hospital Overflow Parking Lot - next to the Bennett Sports Complex. The 2014-2015 Annual PODEX/Drive-Thru Flu Clinic will be held Wednesday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct 15 and 16. NFL PUNT, PASS & KICK COMPETITION, Sep. 27:
Boys and girls ages 6-15 will participate in all three events (punt, pass, kick) for a total score and a chance to advance to the sectional competition. Competition will be 9 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 27) at Youth Sports Football Complex on Green Street, Fort Stewart. Boys and girls compete separately. Participants must have a proof of age and register at Youth Sports and Fitness Center, building 7338. Only gym shoes can be worn for competition.
