RECYCLING DRIVE-THRU, Wednesday & Thursday:

In support of the Annual Fall Cleanup, the DPW Environmental Recycling Program is holding a Drive-Thru recyclable collection. Each collection will have stations for small scrap metal items, electronics (no TVs above 19”), Hazardous Waste, Used Cooking Oil, and Paper/PII documents for shredding. The Hunter Army Airfield collection will be held Wednesday from 9 a.m-2 p.m. in the parking lot on the corner of Duncan Dr. and Billy Mitchell Blvd. The Fort Stewart collection will be held Thursday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the parking lot adjacent to Bennett Sports Complex on Harmon Ave. For more information please call 912-767-6573/1234.

 

IMMIGRATION FAIR, Thursday & Friday:

For Soldiers trying to make sure that their foreign-born spouses, children, or parents may live lawfully in the United States, the most important service that the Legal Assistance Office provides is assistance with immigration applications.  Once a year the LAO joins forces with members of the Georgia/Alabama Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association for a very special two-day Immigration Fair.  During the fair, experienced immigration attorneys provide free consultations to soldiers and their Families in tandem with of JAGs attorneys who will assist with the follow-up. This year the Immigration Fair will be held Thursday from 1-4 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the LAO, 1791 Gulick Ave., Suite 117, Fort Stewart, GA  31314.  To make an appointment, please call (912) 767-8809 or (912) 767-8819.

 

STATE OF THE GARRISON SCHEDULED, Thursday & Friday:

The Fort Stewart State of the Garrison is scheduled for Thursday, 10 a.m.-noon in the Club Stewart Ballroom. The Hunter AAF State of the Garrison is scheduled for Friday, 1-3 p.m. in the Hunter Chapel. The State of the Garrison is a bi-annual event to share information with the workforce. This will be the first for COL Townley Hedrick.  Topics will include:  Civilian Fitness Program, Garrison Workforce Training and Education.  These forums are open to all Garrison employees.  All DA civilians (AF/NAF), contractors and tenant organizations are encouraged to attend.  This will be your official place of duty. ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT & ASSISTANCE INSPECTION, Monday-Oct. 30:

An Environmental Performance Assessment & Assistance System (EPAAS) inspection will be conducted from Monday-Oct. 30. The objective of the EPAAS is to identify non-compliance with environmental regulations and non-conformance with the International Organization for Standardization’s (ISO) 14001 standard used for our Sustainability Management System (SMS). Our SMS focuses on Water Conservation, Energy Conservation, and Land Use with an emphasis on threatened and endangered species management and solid waste reduction. FOOD HANDLER'S CLASS, Oct. 27:

This FREE class will be held at Winn ACH in the Patriot Auditorium from 1-2 p.m. Certification is good for one year. To register for this class, please submit your first and last name to usarmy.stewart.medcom-winn.list.environmental-health-services@mail.mil by COB Oct. 22.  Pre-registration is a REQUIREMENT in order to attend this class, and you must be on time, no-walk-ins are permitted.  This class is mandated for all those dealing with food items on FSGA/HAAF (Unit functions, Organizational Days, FRG Events). HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD MONTHLY TOBACCO CESSATION CLASS, Oct. 28:

Hunter Army Airfield will conduct its Monthly Tobacco Cessation class from 1-2 p.m. in the Tuttle Clinic (Bldg. 1440) computer room. STEWART MONTHLY TOBACCO CESSATION CLASS, Oct. 29:

Army Public Health Nursing in conjunction with the Army Wellness Center is conducting Monthly Tobacco Cessation classes.  The next Fort Stewart class is Oct. 29, 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the Army Wellness Center located at 844 Gulick Ave. (Bldg.442). STEWART TRUNK TREAT EVENT, Oct. 29:

Put on your most creative spooky costume, bring your treat bags and join in for a good time. Each decorated car will have a trunk full of surprises just waiting for the ghouls and goblins to stop by from 6-8 p.m. at Donovan Field on Fort Stewart. SIDEWALK SALE STEWART COMMISSARY, Oct. 29-31:

The Fort Stewart commissary will be having a sidewalk sale Oct. 29-31. Many available items sold in bulk with even more extra products offered outside the commissary.  Please note that the commissaries are not responsible for early sell out of items during sales due to high customer volume or limited product availability. FREE CANDY STEWART COMMISSARY, Oct. 31:

The Fort Stewart commissary grocery manager will be handing out limited amount of free bags of candy to children Oct. 31 from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Please note that the commissary is not responsible for early run out of supplies during the event due to high demand volume. WEAR PURPLE THURSDAYS IN OCTOBER:

Each Thursday, we encourage our Community to wear purple.  Why purple? Purple is the symbolic color for domestic violence awareness. In the United States military, the Purple Heart is presented to those who have been wounded while serving. Wear purple as a way to tell others why that ending domestic violence is important to you. Please consider taking pictures of your staff members, FRG, office decorations, ECT if wearing Purple on Thursdays.   If you send them to me, we will publish on the ACS Facebook page and we can push this initiative farther. SIGN UP NOW FOR STORM SPOTTER CLASS, Nov. 3:

The DPTMS - Protection Branch will host a National Weather Service (NWS) Storm Spotter Class 3 Nov., 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the SFC Paul R. Smith Education Center Auditorium. The training will be led by the Warning Coordination Meteorologist from the Charleston NWS, Ron Morales, and will include a brief introduction to the NWS, the different types of hazardous weather and how to safely observe them, the types of severe weather to report, and how to send those reports to the NWS.  No prior knowledge of weather or weather observing is necessary to attend this training. The Soldier & Family Assistance Center is scheduled to host Growth, Progression and Strength event from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Fort Stewart Education Center, building 100. The target audience for the event includes Warrior Transition Battalion Soldiers, their family members and caregivers. CROSSFIT FORT STEWART WARRIOR CHALLENGE 2015, Saturday:   

Registration continues until Thursday for the CrossFit Fort Stewart Warrior Challenge, scheduled Saturday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at Caro Fitness Center, building 708. The cost is $35 per person. SIGN UP FOR MANAGED HUNTS AT FORT STEWART, Nov. 7, & Dec. 19:

Registration is being accepted from Active Duty Soldiers and Retirees for Outdoor Recreation’s two remaining managed deer/hog hunts at Fort Stewart. Sign up at the Stewart or Hunter Pass and Permit offices. Sign-up for the first hunt, scheduled Saturday (Oct. 24) in Red Cloud Complex, is closed. The second hunt will be Nov. 7 in the Delta Area and the registration deadline is Oct. 26. The third hunt will be in the Bravo Area Dec. 19, with a selection drawing on Dec. 8. For each hunt, there will be 45 slots for active duty soldiers and five slots for retirees. You can put your name in for all hunts, but you can only go on one hunt in a year.
