SMASH OUT ALCOHOL ABUSE, April 20:Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield’s Army Substance Abuse Program will sponsor an Alcohol Awareness Month Event “Smash out Alcohol Misuse and Alcohol Screening Day”, Monday April 20, in the PX parking lot of both installations, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A car will be set up for individuals to take their turn at wrecking the car with a sledge hammer to show that it takes hours to wreck a car with a sledge hammer, but it only takes a drunk driver a split second. All units are encouraged to take advantage of this training opportunity, the ASAP will count the training hours toward each unit’s minimum 4 hour annual Substance Abuse Prevention and Awareness Training requirement. WOMEN AIRFORCE SERVICE PILOTS (WASP) EXHIBITION, April 14, 16 and May 7 and 12:

The “WASP” Traveling Exhibition will be on display at Fort Stewart and Hunter AAF in recognition of the 75th Anniversary of “Hunter Field and Camp Stewart" at Wright Army Airfield-MidCoast Airport Terminal, located at 1116 East Lowes Circle in Hinesville, Ga, on April 14 and 16. The exhibit will travel to Hunter at the Truscott Terminal, Bldg. 7920, North Lightning Rd, May 7 and 12. There will be two sessions each day, 10 a.m. to Noon and 1-3 p.m. As a pioneering organization of civilian female pilots, many WASP served at our local “Liberty Field” (Now Wright AAF MidCoast Regional Air-port on Ft Stewart), flying a variety of Army Aircraft during WWII.

ROLLOVER MACHINE VISITS HUNTER, April 14:

The Hunter Army Airfield’s Army Substance Abuse Program will sponsor an Alcohol Awareness Month Event 9-10 a.m. 10-11 a.m. and 1-2 p.m. April 14 at the Hunter Post Exchange parking lot. The event is supported by the Governor’s Office of Vehicle Safety and includes a Vehicle Rollover Simulation demonstration. Also, Soldiers attending will get a chance to perform common tasks while wearing “Drunk Goggles” i.e. driving a golf cart, play corn hole, and try their hand at the Quarterback Madness Football throw. All units are encouraged to take advantage of this training opportunity, the ASAP will count the training hours toward each unit’s minimum 4 hour annual Substance Abuse Prevention and Awareness Training requirement.

VRO OFFICES CLOSED, April 14, 16:

The Hunter Vehicle Registration Offices will be closed from Noon to 3 p.m. April 14; and the Fort Stewart VRO will be closed from Noon to 3 p.m. April 16. The closures are to allow employees to attend their respective State of the Garrison briefings.

STATE OF THE GARRISON - FORT STEWART, April 16:

The Fort Stewart State of the Garrison is scheduled for April 16 from 1-3 p.m. at the Main Post Chapel. The State of the Garrison is a bi-annual event to share information with the workforce. This will be the last workforce briefing for COL Kevin Gregory. Topics will include: Civilian Fitness Program, Garrison Workforce Training and Education. This forum is open to all DA Civilian garrison employees. This event will be designated as your official place of duty.

GOLF LEAGUE PLAY BEGINS, April 16:

The Fort Stewart Golf League officially begins play Monday, April 13, at Taylor's Creek Golf Course. The nine-hole, kick off scramble tees off at 4 p.m. Cost is $20 per event, per player and includes golf cart, small bucket of range balls and selected prizes. The league continues through June 1. HUNTER VETERINARY SERVICES CHANGE, Ongoing:

FREE SPOUSE EMPLOYMENT TRAINING:

Savannah Technical College has partnered with ACS, the Coastal Workforce Development Board and local Economic Development Authorities to offer Military Spouses free training and job placement assistance in the following career fields: Logistics and Warehousing, CDL and Basic Law Enforcement. TRAFFIC WARNING ON SIGMA STREET, through April 27:

Commuters are encouraged to use caution on Fort Stewart as railroad crossing construction is planned for Sigma Street from March 27 from 6 a.m. until April 27. DPW is only closing areas around the 5 railroad crossings on Sigma Street. Motorist are encouraged to avoid this area to minimize traffic congestion and be alert to changes in traffic patterns. FOOD HANDLER'S CLASS Monday, April 27:

This class will be held at Winn ACH in the Patriot Auditorium from 9-10 a.m. FREE class, certification is good for one year. To register for this class, please submit your first and last name to usarmy.stewart.medcom-winn.list.environmental-health-services@mail.mil by COB Thursday April 23. Pre-registration is a REQUIREMENT in order to attend this class, and you must be on time, no-walk-ins are permitted. This class is mandated for all those dealing with food items on FSGA/HAAF (Unit functions, Organizational Days, FRG Events).

MEDDAC VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION CEREMONY, April 29:

NEW VISITOR CONTROL CENTER HOURS, Through April 30:

The Directorate of Emergency Services will close the Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield Visitor Control Centers between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. All visitors who have a valid pass or Common Access Card / Military ID to access post unescorted will be able to access post as normal. Visitors who do not have a valid pass or Common Access Card / Military ID will not be granted unescorted access to the installation and will be required to have a valid Common Access Card / Military ID holder physically meet them at Gate 1 (FS) or the Montgomery Gate (HAAF) for access. The valid ID Holder will be the visitor's "Sponsor" while on the installation. Once the sponsor meets their guest at the gate they will be allowed to follow their sponsor in their vehicle to their final destination. Visitors will be logged onto post once the sponsor arrives at the gate. The Sponsor will be responsible and held accountable to maintain positive control. Sponsors are also responsible for the personal conduct of their visitors. Only valid Sponsors 18 and older will be allow to sponsor Guests/Visitors during this time period. Up to five visitors will be allowed per sponsor. Sponsors who fail to obey this directive could lose the privilege of sponsoring future guests or visitors. TRAFFIC WARNING FOR 16TH STREET, May 29:

Commuters are encouraged to use caution on Fort Stewart as road construction is planned for East 6th Street for traffic between Harmon Avenue and East Bultman, through 6 a.m. until May 26. In addition road construction will close East 16th Street from Troop Avenue to Harmon Avenue. The road will be closed from 6 a.m. until May 29. Detour signs and traffic control devices will be displayed for the duration of the closures. Motorist are encouraged to avoid this area to minimize traffic congestion and be alert to changes in traffic patterns. For more information call DPW at 767-3269.

MONTH OF THE MILITARY CHILD WHEELS DAY EVENT, April 17:

Wheels Day, part of the celebration of April as Month of the Military Child, will be held Friday (April 17) starting at 9:30 a.m. in the parking area of the Child Development Center (building 403) and the Marne Bowling Center. No charge. Parents welcome. Children can explore and learn about military vehicles their Moms and Dads drive, see police and fire vehicles up close, learn about fire safety in the Fire House and talk to police, firemen and emergency responders. PROJECT MANAGEMENT PROFESSIONAL EXAMINATION BOOT CAMP INFORMATION BRIEIFING, April 16:

Heaton Business Consultants will host an online information brief April 16, 7 p.m., to provide an overview of the PMP Boot Camp planned for May 20-28 at the Fort Stewart Education Center which is designed to prepare students who plan to sit for the PMP Certification Exam. SATURDAY’S LONG RANGE SIGHT-IN CANCELLED The Long Range Sight-in scheduled from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday (April 11) at Red Cloud Echo Range (off GA Hwy 119 North) has been cancelled due to range maintenance. The cancellation does not affect the Large Caliber Rifle Shoot scheduled Friday (April 10) from 2-6 p.m. at Small Arms November Range on Fort Stewart. It will be held as scheduled. PARENT WORKSHOP AT HUNTER TO EXPLAIN TESTING OF PUPILS IN GRADES 3-8, April 14:

A workshop focused on standardized tests children (grades 3-8) will take in the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) before the end of this school year will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. April 14. The workshop will be at the School Age and Middle School Teen Center, 2599 S. Perimeter Road (building 8805). Pulaski Elementary School and Southwest Middle School are working together, along with the School Liaison Office, for the event. NEW VISITOR CONTROL CENTER HOURS, April 1 - 30:

The Directorate of Emergency Services will close the Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield Visitor Control Centers between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. This measure is being taken to help the Garrison's ability to determine future planning efforts of our Access Control and Visitor Control Measures. All visitors who have a valid pass or Common Access Card / Military ID to access post unescorted will be able to access post as normal. Visitors who do not have a valid pass or Common Access Card / Military ID will not be granted unescorted access to the installation and will be required to have a valid Common Access Card / Military ID holder physically meet them at Gate 1 (FS) or the Montgomery Gate (HAAF) for access. The valid ID Holder will be the visitor's "Sponsor" while on the installation. Once the sponsor meets their guest at the gate they will be allowed to follow their sponsor in their vehicle to their final destination. Visitors will be logged onto post once the sponsor arrives at the gate. The Sponsor will be responsible and held accountable to maintain positive control of those they escort on and off the installation. Sponsors are also responsible for the personal conduct of their visitors. Only valid Sponsors 18 and older will be allow to sponsor Guests/Visitors during this time period. Up to five visitors will be allowed per sponsor. Sponsors who fail to obey this directive could lose the privilege of sponsoring future guests or visitors. ALCOHOL AWARENESS MONTH, April: Hunter Army Airfield’s Army Substance Abuse Program will kick off their Alcohol Awareness Month Campaign today by sponsoring a presentation by the Georgia State Patrol highlight the consequences of alcohol use and abuse. All units are encouraged to take advantage of this training opportunity, the ASAP will count the training hrs toward each unit’s minimum 4 hr annual Substance Abuse Prevention and Awareness Training requirement. Classes are 9-10 a.m., 10:15-11:15 a.m. 1-2 p.m., and 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. at the Hunter Post Theater, Bldg 1282. The topic is "Consequences of Alcohol Use and Abuse". APRIL IS AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH:

According to recent statistics, Autism effects 1 out of every 68 children. During the month of April, ACS EFMP representatives will conduct information tables at different locations at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Air Field. Autism is diagnosed in1 out of every 68 children. If you have questions about your child’s development, ask your medical provider.

LIGHT IT UP BLUE, tonight:

Light It Up Blue is a campaign to honor people with autism worldwide. Last year, over 10,000 events and buildings went blue last year! By lighting it up blue, 7 p.m. April 2 at the Main Post Chapel; and throughout April, we can start a conversation about autism. Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Air Field will display blue lights throughout the month of April.

SPRING CARNIVAL AT WALKER FIELD, today-Sunday (April 2-5):

The carnival, featuring at least 19 major, super and children’s rides, plus skill games, is coming to Walker Field at Fort Stewart Thursday (April 2) through Sunday (April 5).
