MARNE FOCUS ROAD ACCESS, through Wednesday:

During Marne Focus supporting elements must use off post roads to access Camp Oliver.  If you have to use a tank trail to access Camp Oliver, please use FS Road 17. Minimize all traffic to Training Areas Echo and Foxtrot, Galahad Drop Zone, B-13 LFX and B-18 LFX/Shoothouse during this training time period. INSTALLATION FIREWORKS RESTRICTIONS:

Fort Stewart Regulation 420-11, Chap 18 states "b. Sale, storage, possession, or use of fireworks of any description on an Army reservation or property, including Army-owned housing areas, is prohibited." This restriction applies regardless of state fireworks laws.  Georgia defines "Fireworks" as: "... any article prepared for the purpose of producing a visible or audible effect, including, firecrackers, torpedos, skyrockets, Roman candles, bombs, sparklers..." FORT STEWART MEDICAL DEPARTMENT CHANGE OF COMMAND, July 8:

The Commander of the United States Army Medical Department Activity Fort Stewart will transfer command in a ceremony scheduled 9 a.m. July 8 at Fort Stewart’s Marne Garden. During the ceremony, Col. Patrick J. Ahearne will assume command from Col. Kirk W. Eggleston.

iWATCH, iREPORT, iSalute are community programs to help your neighborhood stay safe from terrorist activities.  You and your fellow Army community members can report behaviors and activities that make you feel uncomfortable and do not look right (suspicious behaviors). iWATCH ARMY is a program and partnership between your community and your local law enforcement.  iWATCH ARMY asks you to report behavior and activities that are unusual or seem out of the ordinary. CONTROLLED BURNING, Ongoing:

Fort Stewart's Forestry Branch is in the midst of a controlled burn season and will be conducting controlled burns at various locations on the Installation each week. The Fort Stewart and HAAF Dining Facilities cordially invite DA Civilians and Family Members to dine with us.  Legion (building 207, 660 Harmon Ave), Raider (Bldg 642, 1312 William H. Designated Weekend and Holiday Meal DFACs begin with the supper meal on Friday (for the training holiday on 3 - 6 July, the weekend designated DFAC begins with supper on 2 July).  Hours are Brunch 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Supper 5-6:30 p.m.

FRONT 9 HOLES OF TAYLORS CREEK CLOSED, Friday:

The front nine holes at Taylors Creek Golf Course will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. Friday because of the fireworks display scheduled as part of the Independence Day Celebration at Cottrell Field that evening. The back nine will be open for play. For more information, call 912-767-2370.

 

STEWART/HUNTER TO CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE DAY:

Independence Day celebrations are scheduled at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield. At Hunter, the celebration will be held at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Family Day Field. Patriotic, ceremonial music by the 3rd ID Band will set the stage for a fireworks display to begin about 9:15 p.m. On Friday at Stewart's Cottrell Field, a Salute to the Nation ceremony will include music by the 3rd ID Band. The ceremony will begin at 8:30 p.m. and will be followed by a fireworks display. The colorful Salute to the Nation ceremony will include the firing of one artillery round for each of America's 50 states. Old Glory and the flags of each state and the nation's eight territories will be presented and a brief history will be given. For more information, call 912-767-6212.

 

RED, WHITE AND BLUE GOLF TOURNAMENT AT STEWART, Saturday:

Salute the nation by taking part in this special 2-Person Golf Scramble at Taylors Creek Golf Course starting at 9 a.m. Saturday to celebrate our country's independence. Open to the public. HUNTER/STEWART INDOOR POOLS TO CLOSE WHILE THERMAL COVERS INSTALLED IN JULY:

Installation of energy saving, retractable thermal pool covers will necessitate the temporary closing of Hunter/Stewart’s indoor pools at separate times during July. Scheduled dates for closing are: Johnson Fitness Center, July 6-13; Newman Fitness Center Pool, July 14-19, and Tominac Fitness Center, July 20-24. The thermal covers, operated mechanically, will help to conserve energy when the heated pools are not in use.

 

KAYAK FLOAT TRIP WITH LEISURE TRAVEL, July 11:

Join Outdoor Recreation on a leisurely kayak float down a coastal Georgia waterway from 7 a.m. until noon July 11. All equipment is provided and a lifeguard will be on the trip to assist if needed. COMPANY LEVEL INTRAMURAL FOOT GOLF LEAGUE SIGN-UP BEGINS:

Company-level competition in foot golf, the game that combines the fun and challenges of soccer and golf, begins the week of July 13 at Hunter Golf Course. Companies can enter by submitting a memo at Squires Sports Complex, building 1460, from June 29-July 10. Games will be played Tuesdays at 5:15 p.m. The cost is $5 per player per match, with minimum of two-player and maximum of four-player teams. SIGN-UP FOR YOUTH FALL SOCCER LEAGUES AT HUNTER:

Registration for youth fall soccer will be held June 30-July 30, with practice beginning in mid-August and season play starting in late September at Hunter Youth Sports and Savannah YMCA fields. STEWART/HUNTER COMMUNITY THEATER PRESENTS "JUNGLE BOOK," July 17, 19:

Ticket sales are underway at Fort Stewart’s Leisure Travel and Stewart Lanes Bowling Center for the Stewart/Hunter Community Theatre’s action-packed adaptation of Kipling's classic adventure story, "The Jungle Book." Performances, at Woodruff Theater, are scheduled for July 17 at 6:30 p.m. and July 19 at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.  Tickets can be purchased now-July 16 at Fort Stewart Leisure Travel and Stewart Lanes Bowling Center. Prices are $12 for adults, $7 for ages 9 and under, or $30 per family of four. A limited number of tickets will be sold at the door on the days of the events. WHITEWATER RAFTING, KAYAKING ON LEISURE TRAVEL TRIP, July 18:

Commuters are encouraged to use caution on Hunter Army Airfield as road construction is planned for Leonard Neal Street between Duncan Drive and Haley Ave. The road will be Closed from 7 a.m. June 15 until Aug 18. STEWART ROAD CLOSURE, through June 23:

East 16th Street from Harmon Ave. to Ricker Ave/Austin Road will be closed to complete the next phase of paving. ROAD CONSTRUCTION, through Oct. 7:

Beginning June 8 through Oct. 7, construction will begin on a Traffic Circle at the intersection of Hero and Austin Roads. The contractor will be working diligently to complete the project prior to the beginning of the next school year. Detour signs and traffic control devices will be displayed for the duration of the closure.  Motorist are encouraged to avoid this area to minimize traffic congestion and be alert to changes in traffic patterns. COMMERCIAL VEHICLE TRAFFIC ALERT:

WINN ROAD CONSTRUCTION, June 22-28:

MONTHLY TOBACCO CESSATION CLASS, Wednesday (June 24):

Army Public Health Nursing in conjunction with the Army Wellness Center is conducting monthly tobacco cessation classes.  The next class is 9-10 a.m., June 24, at the Army Wellness Center located at 844 Gulick Ave. (building 442), Fort Stewart.  Classes will provide tools on how to become tobacco free and how to stay tobacco free if you have already quit.  Open to all Active Duty, Retirees, Military Beneficiaries and DoD Civilians (MEDDAC, DENTAC, & VETCOM only). 2nd ANNUAL ACS RECON CHALLENGE, Thursday (June 25):

PARENT/CHILD FOOT GOLF SCRAMBLE AT HUNTER, Saturday (June 27):

Hunter Golf staff invites parents to bring their child and be part of this new form of golf fun for the entire Family. Players use a soccer ball instead of golf balls. Rules are very similar to traditional golf. The 18-hole Parent/Child Foot Golf Scramble starts at 1 p.m. June 27. DAY OF OFFSHORE DEEP SEA FISHING WITH LEISURE TRAVEL, Saturday (June 27): Today is the last day to register for a day of offshore deep sea fishing, where Black Sea Bass and Trigger fish are the catch of the day. Sail out of Jekyll Island Marina on June 27. The cost of $135 per person includes bait, tackle and transportation. Participants must be 12 years old or older. Bring your lunch coolers, up to 48 quarts allowed, no glass. Keep what you catch if in season (limits set by Fish and Wildlife). HUNTER/STEWART INDOOR POOLS TO CLOSE WHILE THERMAL COVERS ARE INSTALLED IN JULY:

Installation of energy saving, retractable thermal pool covers will necessitate the temporary closing of Hunter/Stewart’s indoor pools at separate times during July. Scheduled dates for closing are: Johnson Fitness Center, July 6-13; Newman Fitness Center Pool, July 14-19, and Tominac Fitness Center, July 20-24. The thermal covers, operated mechanically, will help to conserve energy when the heated pools are not in use.

 

STEWART/HUNTER TO CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE DAY, July 2:

Independence Day celebrations are scheduled at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield. At Hunter, the celebration will be held at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at the Family Day Field. Patriotic, ceremonial music by the 3rd ID Band will set the stage for a fireworks display to begin about 9:15 p.m. On Friday, July 3 at Stewart's Cottrell Field, a Salute to the Nation ceremony will include music by the 3rd ID Band. The ceremony will begin at 8:30 p.m. and will be followed by a fireworks display. The colorful Salute to the Nation ceremony will include the firing of one artillery round for each of America's 50 states. COMMEMORATION OF THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE VIETNAM WAR, Friday, (June 19):

Welcome Home Ceremony to honor our Vietnam Veterans and their Families, Cottrell Field, 5:30 p.m., June 19, in Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War. The ceremony will give Vietnam Veterans something they did not receive when they returned from war some 50 years ago...a welcome home. Veterans are asked to meet ceremony personnel at 4:30 p.m. at the SFC Paul R. Smith Army Education Center just outside Fort Stewart's main gate. During Marne Focus supporting elements must use off post roads to access Camp Oliver.  If you have to use a tank trail to access Camp Oliver, please use FS Road 17. Minimize all traffic to Training Areas Echo and Foxtrot, Galahad Drop Zone, B-13 LFX and B-18 LFX/Shoothouse during this training time period. RECON CHALLENGE REGISTRATION OPENS:

 ACS is proud to partner with the Wellness Center and MWR for the 2nd Annual RECON Challenge. Teams will navigate dismounted to special landmarks on Fort Stewart where they will face a challenge designed for the entire Family.  Dress to get wet and be ready to have fun.  A very special finish line has been selected to cool the entire Family off.   Get your teams ready and call (912) 767-1257 to register.

 

WARRANT OFFICER ASSOCIATION GOLF SCRAMBLE, June 19:

FIELD SANITATION TEAM TRAINING, June 22-26: Field Sanitation Team training will be taking place on Jun 22 – 26.  This 40 hour course will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the SFC Paul R. MONTHLY TOBACCO CESSATION CLASS, June 24:

Army Public Health Nursing in conjunction with the Army Wellness Center is conducting monthly tobacco cessation classes.  The next class is 9-10 a.m., June 24, at the Army Wellness Center located at 844 Gulick Ave. (building 442), Fort Stewart.  Classes will provide tools on how to become tobacco free and how to stay tobacco free if you have already quit.  Open to all Active Duty, Retirees, Military Beneficiaries and DoD Civilians (MEDDAC, DENTAC, & VETCOM only). 2nd ANNUAL ACS RECON CHALLENGE, June 25:  

Join ACS as we conduct the 2nd Annual RECON Challenge.  This IMCOM recognized Best Practice will be conducted June 25, with registration starting at 4:30 p.m. The challenge will begin after Retreat at 5:00 pm.  This is a Family fun event designed to build Resilience, improve communication and build confidence in decision making.  Participants will be given clues to navigate to special landmarks on the Installation.  Landmarks will have questions and physical challenges designed to further test participants.  ACS will have a surprise finish point for the entire Families enjoyment.  Please call FS (912) 767-1257/4047/1597 for details.

iWATCH, iREPORT, iSalute are community programs to help your neighborhood stay safe from terrorist activities.  You and your fellow Army community members can report behaviors and activities that make you feel uncomfortable and do not look right (suspicious behaviors). iWATCH ARMY is a program and partnership between your community and your local law enforcement.  iWATCH ARMY asks you to report behavior and activities that are unusual or seem out of the ordinary. CONTROLLED BURNING, Ongoing:

Fort Stewart's Forestry Branch is in the midst of a controlled burn season and will be conducting controlled burns at various locations on the Installation each week. 75TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL AT MARNE BOWLING CENTER, Month of June:

Marne Bowling Center is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield with a special price deal all during June. LARGE CALIBER RIFLE SHOOT, Friday (June 12):

Large caliber rifle shoot Friday from 2-6 p.m. at Small Arms Range November (off Stewart Road 40) is an opportunity for Soldiers, Retirees, Army Civilians, and civilian guests to zero and shoot large caliber weapons at 25, 50 and 100 meters. FOOT GOLF GRAND OPENING AT HUNTER, Saturday (June 13): 

A four-person scramble June 13 at 1 p.m. will celebrate the grand opening of the 18-hole Foot Golf course adjacent to the front nine at Hunter Golf Course. JUNIOR GOLF CAMP AT TAYLORS CREEK GOLF COURSE, June 15-19, July 13-17:

For youth ages 6-12, course includes putting mechanics, approach shots, rules of golf and etiquette. No previous experience necessary. Times are 8:30-11:30 a.m. for both sessions. Juniors are encouraged to bring their own equipment; however golf clubs will be provided for those who do not have their own. Fee of $150 per participant includes instruction, golf booklets, golf cap, balls and tees. A tournament, with lunch provided, will be held on final day of camp. LOW COUNTRY BREWS & BBQ BITES, June 19:

Maleficent,” rated PG, is the next film scheduled to be shown as part of the popular Holbrook Movies Under the Stars series. “Maleficent” will be shown starting at 8:30 p.m. on June 19.  There’s no charge for the movies, and movie-goers are asked to bring their own chairs or blankets. JACKSONVILLE JAGUAR TICKETS ON SALE AT LEISURE TRAVEL:

Tickets for all Jacksonville Jaguars home games, played at EverBank Field in Jacksonville, are available at Stewart/Hunter Leisure Travel offices. HUNTER/STEWART INDOOR POOLS TO CLOSE WHILE THERMAL COVERS INSTALLED IN JULY:

Installation of energy saving, retractable thermal pool covers will necessitate the temporary closing of Hunter/Stewart’s indoor pools at separate times during July. Scheduled dates for closing are: Johnson Fitness Center, July 6-13; Newman Fitness Center Pool, July 14-19, and Tominac Fitness Center, July 20-24. The thermal covers, operated mechanically, will help to conserve energy when the heated pools are not in use.

 

"THE WALKING DEAD" TOUR ATLANTA TRIP, July 11:  

Register by June 22 to take “The Walking Dead” tour in Atlanta July 11. Visit the hospital where it all started for your favorite sheriff on "The Walking Dead." Go inside the goat farm and see firsthand where the "Vatis" held camp. Find out if the CDC is still standing and get your own cover shot and selfie from the Jackson Street Bridge.
