(Ongoing) PERSONAL EMAIL SITES BLOCKED:
Army Cyber Command (ARCYBER) has ordered DISA to block
commercial personal email site access on the Army Network to locations such as:
Yahoo!, Gmail, MSN and many others due to an immediate spear phishing threat.
It is currently undetermined as to when the block will be lifted or how long it
will be in effect. You can still send and receive to and from those addresses,
but logging in to the commercial email service is blocked or hindered. Local
support staff cannot change this service availability.
(Ongoing) PHISHING ATTACKS ON DOD SYSTEMS:
There has been an increase in spear phishing attacks on
Department of Defense Information Systems (DODIN). All users must report anomalous
behavior on their computer systems quickly, not click on attachments without
verifying with the sender that they are legitimate, and to not paste hyperlinks
to webpages into the browser unless they are known good links. While the actor
involved is unknown, initial indications are that the malicious malware
attempting to be downloaded is known as "Locky Ransomware." This malware encrypts files on a victim's
computer, followed by a ransom demanded in order to unlock those files.
Countermeasures are in place to protect DODIN by preventing any further
download of this malicious software and/or communication back with the actor. A
temporary 12-hour block on DODIN for all incoming .zip and .exe files are
currently in place to block DODIN Outlook Web Mail and personal webmail from
some of the larger commercial web email providers. This may also effect other
services available from those providers. This strategic pause is necessary to
assess the extent of the email proliferation and determine if our measures to
stop the spread are effective. For more information, call 912.767.2055.
